MID-APR

Applications open

V5 and combat applications open at hub.placerrobotics.org — we encourage families to complete theirs by May 31. VEX IQ has no application; coaches add their own students.

MAY–JUN

Info nights

Info nights for the coming season run in May, with repeat sessions in June — the best first stop for new families.

JUN

Intro meetings + season start

The season starts June 1. First intro meetings run in June — a chance for members to meet potential teammates as the new game is revealed.

JUN–JUL

Summer camps

One-week camps run all summer at the Placer Robotics Center.

JUL 31

Rosters freeze

Team rosters typically freeze by July 31. After that, open spots are considered case by case.

AUG

MS Combat kicks off

Middle school combat starts on its own clock — after the July combat camp. Parent kickoff, CAD foundations, and parent-run build groups form in August.

SEP

Season ramps up

First builds mature. Sponsor logo deadline for team apparel is September 15.

OCT–FEB

Regular season

League nights, tournaments, and qualifiers: VEX IQ league nights and Impact Robotics League combat events at the Placer Robotics Center, V5 qualifiers across the region.

MAR–APR

Championship season

Regional and state championships close the season — qualifying teams advance to VEX Worlds, and combat culminates in Sacramento Bot Battles and the IRL Finals (NRL Nationals follow in May).

Why MS Combat runs on a later clock. Middle school combat deliberately waits for the July combat camp to wrap, then kicks off in August: a parent kickoff meeting, CAD foundations (every robot starts as a CAD file the student designs themselves), and weekly parent-run build groups. The first robots hit the arena at the Impact Robotics League's fall opener in October — about ten weeks from kickoff to first match.
